Our 12 day comprehensive look at Russia both past and present will travel along the mighty Volga River and the network of rivers, lakes and canals that weave through the Russian heartland. Your comfortable river vessel acts as your floating hotel both in the cities and beyond, allowing you to relax and enjoy some of Mother Russia’s greatest historic and natural sights. The well planned itinerary includes two days in Moscow and three days in St Petersburg where a full sightseeing programme is arranged with excellent local guides. The journey between Moscow and St Petersburg includes three days exploring the cities of the Golden Ring. These marvellously historic and atmospheric reminders of Russia’s intriguing past, with their kremlins and elaborately decorated cathedrals, offer a very different insight to that of the big cities.
By way of a complete contrast the itinerary continues into the forests and lakes of Kareliya, a beautiful area of seemingly endless forests and rolling green landscapes. Here we will pass villages and hamlets with a timeless quality as we navigate the great lakes of Ladoga and Onega and travel along the Svir River.
